Creative Writing in the Park
A Community Project with Anna
At Friends of Alderman Kneeshaw Park (FOAK), we believe in the power of storytelling and creativity to bring people together. That’s why we were thrilled to work with a talented creative writer, Anna, as part of The Ideas Fund – Tap into the Power of ‘If’. This initiative, supported by the British Science Association and funded by Wellcome, provided an incredible opportunity to explore mental wellbeing through community-led creative writing.

Exploring the Park Through Words
Over the course of the project, Anna worked closely with our community, engaging park users, volunteers, and local groups in creative writing sessions.
These sessions encouraged participants to express their thoughts, experiences, and connections to Alderman Kneeshaw Park, resulting in a collection of inspiring and insightful pieces.
Through storytelling, poetry, and reflective writing, we explored themes that are deeply tied to our park and community.
These pieces not only highlighted the beauty and history of the park but also shed light on important topics such as biodiversity, community cohesion, and grassroots empowerment.

A Series of Stories
As a result of this collaboration, a series of blogs were created, each focusing on different aspects of the park and its impact on the local community. These included:
Community Day on the ParK
A celebration of the wide range of activities that bring people together in our green space.
Community Cohesion
The story of Sarah and her incredible work fostering connections and strengthening our community.
Biodiversity and Ecology
A deep dive by Andy Steele into the rich natural environment of Alderman Kneeshaw Park.
Changing Systems
Exploring initiatives like the Right to Grow movement, food banks, and local growing projects that aim to make a difference.
A Lasting Impact
This project was more than just a series of writing sessions; it was an opportunity for our community to find its voice, share experiences, and connect in new ways. The words and stories crafted through this initiative will continue to inspire us as we move forward with our mission to enhance and protect Alderman Kneeshaw Park.
We are incredibly grateful to Anna for her guidance and creativity, as well as to The Ideas Fund for making this project possible. Most importantly, we thank every community member who took part, shared their words, and helped shape a meaningful collection of stories.
Stay tuned for more creative projects and initiatives at Alderman Kneeshaw Park – and if you have a story to share, we’d love to hear it!
